Kick-Off Meeting of the SEURAT-1 research initiative

The Kick-off Meeting of the SEURAT-1 research initiative will take place from 1 to 3 March 2011 in Quinta da Marinha Resort hotel, Cascais, (near Lisbon, Portugal).

SEURAT has the long-term goal of "Safety Evaluation Ultimately Replacing Animal Testing". SEURAT-1 is a part of SEURAT and groups six research projects that focus on development of knowledge and technologies required for repeated dose systemic toxicity testing without animals. The SEURAT-1 research cluster started on 1 January 2011 for a duration of five years and is composed of the following six complementary projects:

• SCR&Tox: Stem Cells for Relevant Efficient Extended and Normalized Toxicology
• HeMiBio: Hepatic Microfluidic Bioreactor
• DETECTIVE: Detection of endpoints and biomarkers of repeated dose toxicity using in vitro systems
• COSMOS: Integrated In Silico Models for the Prediction of Human Repeated Dose Toxicity of COSMetics to Optimise Safety
• NOTOX: Predicting long-term toxic effects using computer models based on systems characterization of organotypic cultures
• ToxBank: Supporting Integrated Data Analysis and Servicing of Alternative Testing Methods in Toxicology

The collaboration between these six research projects will be facilitated by the coordination and support action COACH "Coordination of projects on new approaches to replace current repeated dose systemic toxicity testing of cosmetics and chemicals".

This Kick-off Meeting is the first of six annual meetings that will be organised in the scope of this research initiative.

The aim of this meeting is to give the partners of the cluster the opportunity to meet, exchange on their research work and on a number of issues that are key for a successful research collaboration.

All participants in the above mentioned projects are invited to attend this event.
